  • Built-in pagination
  • Small set of useful shortcodes
  • Uses the built-in WordPress menu system
  • Compatible with all major browsers (not IE6)
  • Fully internationalized, so you can run the theme in any language (Danish are already added!)

    • At the time of the release of this version, the theme functioned fine on the different devices. However I know there’s an issue on some devices, such as the iPad, that causes the layout to be left-aligned. There’s a issue open on Github about that. I hope to fix it soon but this theme is a bit down on my todo list.

  1. Dear Jesper,

    I just realized that my site (based on the japibas theme) shows perfectly fine in all browsers in desktops/laptops, but has some issues when I access it through an i-pad (everything is aligned to the left). I saw this thread and I was wondering whether the issue has been fixed or whether there is a plugin which can help.

    many many thanks!!

    • Hello Dimitra,

      I know about the problem but there isn’t a update out yet.

      You can use Jetpack’s Custom CSS module or a child theme to add this CSS that should fix the problem:

      @media (max-width: 1050px)
      html, body {
      overflow-x: hidden;

      Hope that helps you.

  2. Hello Jesper,

    I just installed Japibas on my WordPress 4.0.1 and it work fine excepting this message, appearing everywhere, everytime in my WP dashboard :

    Warning: Illegal string offset ‘new_version’ in /home/www/………/web/wp-content/themes/japibas/inc/upgrade.php on line 74

    I tried to edit upgrade.php trough my FTP but i don’t understand anything in PHP unfortunately.
    Here is the line 74 in my upgrade.php file :

    if ( version_compare( $update[‘new_version’], $theme_data[‘Version’], ‘>’ ) )

    And there is the lines 42 to 50 :

    return array(
    ‘title’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘title’],
    ‘new_version’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘version’],
    ‘url’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘link’],
    ‘message’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘message’],
    ‘childmessage’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘childmessage’],
    ‘requires’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘requires’],
    ‘package’ => $update[‘items’][0][‘zip’]

    I’m sorry, but i start to desperate now …

    Many thanks

  3. Hello Jesper,
    I’m a little bit disappointed. I tested my “responsive” website (based on my own japibas child theme) on
    It seems to be “not responsive” because some errors :
    -Garbled, because too little
    -Not configured mobile display window
    -Too close links
    I cannot understand why, because when i setup the first time, it was perfectly responsive.
    My website :
    So, i tried to test some other website with japibas theme : OK not OK not OK not OK !!!
    It’s very strange, isn’t it ?
    Do you have some explanation or solution ?
    Many thanks in advance

    • Hello Seb,

      The theme has not been updated since 2011 so there’s some mobile issues.

      One of the problems should be fixed with this code:

      To add the viewport meta tag, you can add this in your child theme functions.php:

      add_action( 'wp_head', 'seb_japibas_child_viewport', 1 );
      function seb_japibas_child_viewport() {
         echo '<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">';

      Hope that helps you.

      • Thanks Jesper !
        I added the “viewport meta tag” code in my functions.php and now my website seems to be perfectly responsive !
        Amazing !
        But i think i don’t understand what is this “viewport meta tag” …
        Just before that, i tried to add the code you show in the #comment-31639 in my style.css but nothing change. I just removed.
        I really don’t understand anything, but many many thanks Jesper.

  4. the version 2 is not mobile friendly
    are you working on the version 3 ?

    Japibas is your best wordpress theme and very popular.
    You should make a new version every 1/2 years and be paid for that.
    So sad there is not more often theme updates !
    You should make first version free and paid updates for next versions.

    I would prefer to pay 20/30$ to get a theme updated every 1/2 years than wiaiting for 8 years or maybe never to have a free update 🙁
    internet is moving fast people can’t wait so long.

    i would like to keep this theme i like it so much (cry)
    But if there is no more update im gonna have to move to another theme.
